Marshall J. Shepardson
Marshall began defending physicians, hospitals and other medical professionals in 2007 at the boutique firm Belair & Evans, LLP in New York City. He quickly distinguished himself in law and motion, as well as appeals. Among other accomplishments, he obtained a dismissal in federal court under New York’s anti-SLAPP statute in a published opinion, Ginx v. SoHo Alliance (2010) 720 F.Supp.2d 342, which as been cited frequently by courts nationwide ever since. After returning to his native Southern California in 2013, he worked with a preeminent plaintiffs’-side boutique, representing catastrophically injured parties in complex cases involving product defects, aviation, construction and roadway design. He returned to the defense of healthcare professionals in 2019, focused specifically on research, writing and oral advocacy.

Marshall has given CLE presentations on Motions for Summary Judgment in the Medical Malpractice context, as well as on topics in Ethics and Civility. His most recent appellate achievements are successfully briefing and arguing appeals for one respondent physician in the Second District Court of Appeal, where a vexatious litigant’s case was dismissed for failure to post a bond (judgment of dismissal affirmed in an unpublished opinion), and for another respondent physician in the Fourth District Court of Appeal, after first obtaining summary judgment in the trial court over an expert-supported opposition (summary judgment affirmed in an unpublished opinion).
